Rhythm, Feel, Pocket & Groove - the best way to learn.

“Steve is an exceptional teacher. Each lesson is tailored to the style of music the student enjoys. The lessons provide the right amount of challenge to improve my bass skills. Highly recommend Littleton Bass School!” - Dawn

Hello, I’m Steve Combs. I’ve spent more than 50 years teaching, touring, recording, and performing, making people dance, shout, and experience the joy of music. Making great music with amazing & gifted players has always been my passion. Teaching too! It started with something important I learned from a teacher long ago - the best way to learn to play music is to focus on FEEL - the rhythm, the groove, and that pocket that makes songs “happen”, and makes good bands into GREAT bands.

Littleton Bass School is based on that solid working core principle. Rhythm and Groove are the foundations of learning, progress, and mastery of any musical instrument. Anyone of any age or experience can learn to play the electric or upright bass, if a strong emphasis on rhythm is the focus. Music theory is taught with the same kind of focus. It all starts with great rhythm, and feeling the groove.

At Littleton Bass School, my goal is to provide something unique – a place to learn that is focused on finding YOUR own voice on your instrument. My goal is to help anyone who wants to try, to see how fun, how empowering, and how expressive music can be.

I want to understand your interests and talent, and help guide you to exactly where you want to be. Regardless of where you intend to take your talent - a regular weeknight jam with friends or a professional music career – there are many musical opportunities and many joys of playing ahead of you, starting here.

Here are some cool interviews I’ve given, where I talk about the school, my methods, and where I come from —
